Accepted in UNC

Adds a little pleasure to see that I have been admitted in University of North Carolina as well. I considered this my backup and when I told people this, they grinned at me! Those of you who grinned at me, I have made it :)

Hi Nishkala ...

First of all, hearty congratulations for getting admitted to UNC and UMich. It feels so nice to share you joy.

BTW, How many yrs of work-ex do you have?

I just happened to run into your blog. Your articles on MBA and GMAT are really informative, especially for future aspirants like me.

Also, I am particularly moved and inspired by your teacher's sincere attempts to provide education to the underprivileged in Chittor. Given a chance, I would like to contribute financially to whatever small extent I can to these noble endeavours. Please let me know if and how I can do that. I stay in Hyd and if in case you too are from Hyd, that would be easier. You may leave a messege for me on your blog itself.

Alrigty ... have a nice time and great fun before flying then.

Hey Nishkala, congratulations on all your success. Hope to see you here soon.

And thanks a lot for gathering so much info on the GMAT. It really helps.

I do not entirely agree with your reasoning for doing an international MBA. Some parts of the US are extremely conservative and as ill luck would have it, I landed in one of those places where there is no room for the non-White mind.

However, I am glad that you will not be a victim to the Midwest rigidity. Michigan is a great place to be in. Good luck!

I intend to, if at all, apply to only 4 universities - NYU, Columbia Univ, UCLA and USC. In my opinion, to get the maximum out of an MBA, you need to be where all the action is, which is why I picked universities only in NY and LA. And not Chicago just because I have spent quite some time there.

Once again, good luck with everything.

Prash,
Nice to see that you have clarity on what you want while selecting schools. Well said. Columbia has a great advantage becasue of its closeness to NY. The other universities that you have mentioned, I have heard, do not use the NY or LA advantage as good as Columbia. So do think about that too.

Also, be prepared about the cons of being amid such thick action places -

1. People tend to have a lot of entertainment and hang out options. Its rare that they will hang out with their batchmates and even rare that they will hang out near the school etc...

2. School campuses and hostels are typically not big in such expensive places. Also, accommodation tends to be not at one place.

For me, a close-knit environment matters most. I liked Columbia a lot ( I have applied to it and got a ding too ), particularly for its New York advantage. But the New York advantage itself was a bane in disguise. While Tuck is famous for its close-knit community, Columbia is not.

All said, it depends on what you want... I just wanted you to see the two sides of the coin before making a well informed decision.

HTH. I will write briefly about the univs I have researched too... in the next or the next one ( I know you guys are cursing me a lot for not being regular.. Sorry, guys)

Do write back if you need info, particularly about Columbia.

Ak-84, In case I dont reply, do send me a reminder. My memory is awful.... I rely a lot on reminders.. Sometimes, people need to push me by sending reminders..

Hi Nishkala,

I have recently come across your blog while looking for information on GMAT and related admission processes. Thanks for all the information.

Can you post in some information with the research you did on the universities? Thanks for all the information once again.

Thanks,
